At the Council meeting held earlier today 29 May 2019, Her Worship the Mayor of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu tabled an over a billion rand budget for approval.

In tabling the Budget, Her Worship Mayor Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu highlighted that our Country, South Africa, remains in an economically weak position, largely due to factors beyond the control of government. She further cautioned that these economic challenges make it impossible for National and Provincial Government to allocate adequate resources that are equivalent to the needs of different communities. She emphasised that these economic challenges exert pressure on revenue generation and collection levels, hence the municipality is required to adopt creative revenue collection and enhancement mechanisms.

The tabled 2019/2020 Budget consists of One Billion Sixty Five Million, Eight Hundred and Ten Thousand Nine Hundred and Three Rand (R1 065 810 903. 00) Operating Income Budget and One Hundred and Fifty Five Million Thirteen Thousand Three and Ninety Eight (R155 013 398. 00) Capital Income Budget. When tabling the Expenditure Budget, Her Worship the Mayor indicated that the 2019/2020 Operating Expenditure Budget represents 16% increase from the 2018/2019 one. The Operating Expenditure Budget for 2019/2020 is One Billion Nineteen Million One Hundred and Seventy Eight Thousand Rand (R1 019 178 000. 00).

The 2019/2020 Capital Expenditure Budget tabled and approved today “seeks to deliver infrastructural needs of the people whilst mindful of the municipal resolve to remain financially prudent”, alluded the Mayor. This Capital Expenditure Budget of One Hundred and Fifty Five Million Thirteen Thousand Three Hundred and Ninety Eight Rand (R155 013 398. 00) is divided into Cluster Capital Projects, Municipal Wide Projects and Departmental Capital Projects.

In summary, the Final approved 2019/2020 Budget of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality is as follows: Revenue – One Billion One Hundred and Seventy Five Million Two Hundred Fifty Thousand Nine Hundred and Three Rand (R1 175 250 903. 00) whilst total Expenditure Budget stands at One Billion One Hundred and Seventy Four Million One Hundred and Ninety One Thousand Three Hundred and Ninety Eight Rand (R1 174 191 398. 00). The 2019/2020 budget for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality presents a Surplus of One Million Fifty Nine Thousand Five Hundred and Five Rand (R1 059 505. 00 which indicates good planning in order to ensure that the municipality has is in a viable financial status.
