The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and SA Air link’s agreement as a secondary Airline to OR Tambo International Airport is on final stages and the contract is expected to be signed before mid-April 2019.

The municipality has been in continuous negotiations in order to finalise the modalities of this whole airline or route. The finalisation of this agreement follows an approval by Council in January this year whereby it granted an approval for the Mayor and the Municipal Manager to engage with the new airline, SA Airlink to operate the scheduled flights services to and from Margate and OR Tambo and coexist with the current airline.

The municipality has submitted the final draft of the contract after several engagements with the airline and the only thing left now for SA Airlink is to endorse it. Ray Nkonyeni Municipality strongly believes that the Margate Airport is the pillar of economic development, tourism and is also viewed as the huge asset in as far as the municipality is concerned hence it is working so hard to ensure to ensure that the agreement is signed as soon as possible.
